The James has been on fire! We are less than a month away from the “Bug” season being over. It has been one of the best I’ve experienced in a few years. The Smallmouth have been sipping bugs all day. Fish up to 22.25 inches have been boated. Day light hours are getting shorter and the fish will be feeding preparing for the fall.

The Hardware Bridge project is completed and we now have two sections of river once again open for our use. They did a great job and it was well worth the wait. It is also a wading paradise; a lot of Islands offering tons of structure. Just be aware of the deep holes.
I still have a few days available in August and September. Give me a call and let’s get on the river to experience the action.
August and September are great months for fishing. For “Bug” fishing go with a size 2 or 4 popper. With the low clear water conditions go with a 12-14 foot leader with an 8-12 lb. fluorocarbon tippet. Baitfish and Cray fish patterns are the flies to go with when not fishing top water. A 9 foot leader is a wise choice with the river conditions. Again an 8-10 lb. fluorocarbon tippet is recommended.
Conventional anglers are having success on top with Tiny-Torps; Skitter Pops and Pop-R’s. For subsurface action Grubs; Stick baits and the ever popular Fluke are boating fish.

As I mentioned earlier August and September are prime months for quality Smallmouth action. Give me a call and “Let’s go fishing”!
